Welcome!
Thank you for stopping by Spirit of Alaska Wilderness Adventures.
My name is Steele Davis, owner, host & guide at Spirit
of Alaska.
I came to Alaska from New Hampshire in 1981
when I joined the army. After my hitch was up, I decided
to make Alaska my home.
Beginning in 1984 I worked around the state for several
lodges and guide outfits as a worker, fishing guide, packer,
care-taker and assistant big game guide. My first charter
boat business, established in 1987 was in Ninnilchick Alaska,
(Deep Creek) My brother Bernie, operated my boat (C/V Sea
Scooter) While I continued working on obtaining permits
and funding to build a floating lodge in Prince William
Sound. I also worked as foreman for a paving & snow
removal company at the same time. The Exxon Valdez oil spill
put a close to my Prince William Sound dream. I continued
guiding and obtained my USCG captain's license and also
trained to be a certified kayak instructor.
While I worked for other lodges and outfitters around the state, I visited and talked with many people from around the world. I heard people say time and time again that they would like to go to a more private, personal, less expensive, and not so time orientated type lodge. I thought long and hard about what people were saying and came up with the alternative idea for Spirit of Alaska Wilderness Adventures. A wilderness setting - that is totally private. By booking one group at a time, you, the guests, are in direct control of what you do and when you do it.
I decided to settle on Kodiak because of all it has to offer and have been a year round resident on Amook Island for the past 10 years. It would be an honor to share this wonderful island with you. We feel it is truly Heaven on earth, for you and everyone to enjoy.
